Empowering Men's Health: Overcoming Infertility and Erectile Dysfunction Together
What is male infertility?
A man is said to be infertile when he is unable to beget children. This is mainly a result of some dysfunctions in sperm counts or other sperm-related activities. Male infertility can be a result of many factors, including genetic defects, hormonal imbalances, lifestyle choices, environment, and some medical conditions. Common causes include oligospermia (deficiency in the no. of sperm available), asthenospermia (poor mobility of sperm), teratospermia (abnormal forms of sperm), and vasal obstructions (conditions preventing the release of sperm during ejaculation). As for male infertility, the evaluation consists of semen analysis and imaging, hormonal and genetic tests, and further tests. Depending on the circumstances, infertility can be treated through lifestyle and dietary changes, medication and hormonal therapy, surgery, and assisted reproductive technologies – for instance, in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).
ED can be a short-lived complication or long-lasting, which can either be a mild, moderate, severe, or complete loss of erection ability and erection. The clinical approach has always consisted of a full medical history, examination of the patient, laboratory investigations, and, in some cases, additional methods like Doppler ultrasound examination of the penis or studies on the degree of tumescence of the penis during sleep.
Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction is a man’s consistent inability to achieve and maintain an erection suitable for sexual intercourse. ED can be the result of physical and psychological dysfunction. The physiological causes include cardiovascular disease, diabetes, overweight, hypertension, elevated cholesterol, hormone dysfunctions, and structural and functional changes in the nervous system. ED also has psychological aspects to it, where anxiety, depression, tension, and interpersonal factors are involved.
