Types of Dialysis Access:

01

Preparation

The following surgery procedure is carried out only after the patient has been put to sleep or after anesthesia has been administered to the patient.

02

Creation of the access

This is effected by cutting the skin on the arm or the abdomen and joining the two blood vessels, that is, artery and vein. In the case of an AVF, the surgeon will usually construct one or more quite large fenestrations in the vein graft or- the patch in order to enlarge the vein.

03

How is the healing process

Sutures or glue are used to close the incision. This site must be left some time for healing so that it can later be used for dialysis.

care for dialysis site

  • Regular monitoring: The monitored site is the most prone to the risk of thrombus formation, infection, or inflammatory stenosis.
  • Proper care: Patients also have to master the skills of access–site hygiene and the measures needed to prevent trauma.
  • Early detection: The patients are also told to be on the lookout for any erythema, increase in soreness, or swelling of the access area.
  • Dialysis access : is one of the most vital operations that will be performed on patients diagnosed with kidney failure. It ensures patients can constantly undergo dialysis without compromising their social way of life.
